September 3 ,1964 inSt. Petersburg, Florida ), was a former professionalAmerican football player who was selected by theHouston Oilers in the 2nd round of the1986 NFL Draft . A 5'9", 175 lbs.wide receiver from theUniversity of Louisville , Givins played in 10 NFL seasons from 1986-1995. A two-timePro Bowl selection in 1990 and 1992, he played most of his career with the Oilers, catching passes from quarterbackWarren Moon , along with receiversCurtis Duncan ,Haywood Jeffires andDrew Hill in the Oilers run and shoot offense. Givins was best known for histouchdown celebration dance known as the "electric glide." Before Warren Moon's acceptance speech was delivered at the 2006Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony inCanton, Ohio as the first modern dayAfrican American quarterback to be inducted to the Hall of Fame, the Hall of Fame comprised a highlight film in his honor. The first highlight shown that day was a play where Moon dropped back and threw a touchdown pass to Givins. He is very active in St. Petersburg's football community. He also serves asHead Coach of St. Petersburg, Florida's Semi-Pro football the St. Pete Sharks of the SSFL(Suncoast Semi-pro Football League). Givins is currently theoffensive coordinator forBoca Ciega High School 's football team. He now works at Bay Point Middle School in his hometown, St. Petersburg as a Campus Monitor.
