Sunder Nagar (Devanagari: सुंदर नगर) is a neighbourhood in the suburb of Malad–Goregaon in Mumbai, India. [1] The locality, which lies west of the arterial Swami Vivekanand Road and is mostly a residential neighbourhood. [2] It was built up in the 1970s during the city's population and construction boom. The name Sunder Nagar means "beautiful place" in Hindi. There was a community called "Vijaykar Wadi" before 1970 and its name was changed to "Sunder Nagar". "Wadi" means group of trees, there were many "Mango" and "Chikoo" trees in the area, still some can be seen in the park maintained by "The Sunder Nagar Welfare Association".
The area is also known for its educational institutes, with two schools "Umedbhai Patel English School" and "Cambridge Education" and one college, Prahldrai Dalmia's Lions College, which is affliated to the University of Mumbai. Sunder Nagar is also popular for its unity and social works.All units and buildings come together and celebrate every festival with full delite and devotion.Streets are enlighted during Ganesh Chaturthi,Navratri,Janmashtami,etc.A temple of Vaishnodevi Mata is situated at the heart of Sunder Nagar.
Sunder Nagar Garden is quite famous for its Cricket and Football facilities.The garden includes a huge playground having all facilities,joggers area,water tank known as 'Pyau'.At evenings it is a place to be!!One can enjoy the Golawala',Pani-Puri,Shankar's sandwich and Dosas.
