Family History

Charles Bruce Dellit was born on 7th November 1898 in Darlington in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He was the son of Albert Dellit, a furniture manufacturer, and Agnes Gertrude Mack. His full siblings were Albert Cormack, Leo Harold and Ena May. He had several half siblings from his father's earlier marriage to Katie Dellit née Davoren. His half siblings were Laurence John, Alice, Albert Francis, Bernard John, Gregory Stanislaus, James, Austin Davoren and Marie. He married Victoria Clara Millar (daughter of Samuel Millar and Mary Ann Millar née Young) on 15 October 1921 in Queensland. Children of the marriage were Portia, Albert Victor (known as Victor) and Deirdre. Victor was also a prominent architect. Bruce Dellit died in 1942 in Sydney.

Charles Bruce Dellit's Australian origins may be traced to his grandparents Johannes Dellit and Maria Louisa Dellit née Lück who arrived at Port Phillip, Victoria in 1854 aboard the Ship "Ida". Johannes was born in the small village of Kleinschmalkalden, Thuringia, Germany and his origins may in turn be traced to Hans Urban Dellith of that village in the late 1500s.

Charles Dellit is most noted for his design of the art deco ANZAC War Memorial in Hyde Park, Sydney, built to commemorate all who fought in the First World War.
