- John Maunders
John Kenneth Maunders (born 4 April 1981, Ashford,
Middlesex ,England ) is an Englishcricketer .John Maunders was born in Ashford Middlesex and initially played his cricket for Ashford Cricket Club where he was a key member of a very good colts side, he is very close to his family and has a number of relatives, including his grandfather Ken, that have also played good cricket.
Maunders is an opening batsman who has hit 5 centuries in his professional first class career, which started with Middlesex CCC, where he was given limited first team opportunity but performed well at second team level. After failing to break through into the MCCC first team John moved to Leicestershire CCC where he became a regular in the Championship side during the 2005 season and while he has shown he has the talent to succeed, unfortunately he hasn't yet shown the consistency required of a top class cricketer. He also bowls part time medium pace and has 24 wickets to his name.
Earlier in his career he represented England in U19 test cricket, and participated in a U19 World Cup in India, but a stomach llness limited his game time.
He was one of six cricketers to be released by LCCC in October 2007, and will almost certainly be striving for another club where he will be able to prove his undoubted talent.
On June 5th 2008, Leicestershire's chief executive David Smith was forthright in his explanation as to why John Maunders had been released at the end of the 2007 season, saying he was "not good enough", and was replaced by a 22-year Englishman, Matt Boyce, who has been with the county since the age of 11.
Maunder's first class career ended scoring a total of 3,544 runs in 124 innings with 3 Not Outs, at an average of 29.28, which included 5 hundreds and 18 fifties. For his bowling, he took 24 wickets at an average of 38.66, with an economy rate of 3.65, with best figures of 4 for 15.
He joined Essex C.C.C on the 8th of September until the end of the season. He made his debut against Northants and scored 62 and 26.
He is expected to sign a one year contract with Essex during the close season after impressing.
