Union of the Congolese Socialist Youth

Union of the Congolese Socialist Youth

The Union of the Congolese Socialist Youth ("Union de la jeunesse socialiste congolaise", UJSC) is a subdivision of the Congolese Party of Labour (PCT), intended to supervise the young people. From 1969 to 1992, it played a major role in disciplining the young members of the Party and building up their character with Socialist ideas.

The destiny of the young members of the UJSC was to become the next leaders of the PCT, and also of the country. Benefits of membership in the UJSC included scholarships, government-paid studies in foreign countries, and a guaranteed job in the administration once back at home. The UJSC lost prominence after the PCT lost power in the events of 1991–1992.

A lot of officials in the current administration of the Republic of the Congo were members of the UJSC. Its most famous leader was Gabriel Oba-Apounou.
