Thrilling Publications (also known as Beacon Magazines, 1936–37; Better Publications, 1937–43, and Standard Magazines, 1943–55) was a
pulp magazine publisher run byNed Pines . It was in operation from 1931 until 1955, when Pines closed most of his pulp magazines. Pines also ran acomic book line with the same name, which most collectors refer to asNedor Comics .Leo Margulies was a long-time editor at the company, and considered for many years to be the highest-paid editor in all of the pulps.Pines started
Popular Library in 1942, a paperback publishing house, and devoteed himself to that company after closing his other ventures. Popular reprinted materials from the pulps.A complete history of the Thrilling chain is available in the anthology, "Thrilling Pulp Heroes" (Adventure House, 2006).
