Plot

The storyline details the eternal spirit of Zen and his eternal game with the Council: Sidny Hartha, Connie Fyu-Sha and Lao-Sue. These three characters were re-interpretations of Siddhartha, Confucius and Lao-Tsu the three characters from the "Vinegar Tasters". When Zen gets bored and sends an asteroid towards the Earth, the Council gathers on the Martian moonbase Phobos and decides to send the investigators to stop Zen and save the planet.

The directors utilized the dramatic landscapes of New Mexico to full advantage during the principle photography, especially the picturesque shots of New Mexico's caves to represent the asteroid.

Budget

Zen & the Asteroid was made with a budget of US$10,000, took 5 years to produce and had its world premiere screening on 12 August 2005 at the Santa Fe Film Festival.
