- A.F.C. Barnsley
A.F.C. Barnsley was a football club based in
Barnsley ,South Yorkshire ,England .A.F.C. Barnsley was established in 2003 as a football team to represent the town should Barnsley Football Club's ongoing financial problems become terminal.
In the 2005-06 season, they were members of the
Central Midlands League Supreme Division , but when Barnsley's financial problems eased, the need for another club diminished. A.F.C. Barnsley was wound up and being unable to complete the season, resigned with effect from 22 March 2006.When AFC was founded it claimed to be a community club, 'By the fans, for the fans' yet during their lifespan and even now after their closure they refused to answer questions from Barnsley supporters and the local community. Questions such as who was bank rolling the club? Did Patrick Cryne (Owner of Barnsley FC) have anything to do with AFC Barnsley? Why did they close? have all been asked and no reply is given.
In response to questions from supporters wanting to know the truth, one AFC 'insider' gave this reply "theres them as needed to know and then theres them as dunt". (Traslation: Some need to know and some don't.)
During their brief time in the amateur leagues rumours were rife that players were being paid to play for them.
