Al Ajaylat ( _ar. العجيلات) is the name of a region and small city located in Baladiyat An Nuqat al Khams, Libya with an estimated population of about 4,878. It is located roughly 80 kilometers west of Tripoli, Libya. Alternates names: Agelat, Al `Ajaylat, El Agelat, El Ajelat.

Tribal Groups

The region's tribal groups ("qabā’il") [القبائل tribe - Hans Wehr Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic p.868] are currently divided into two primary federations or sections, including: (1) "Aulād" ["Descendants" – "Ibid" p.1285] Hamid, which consists of; "Al-e’rīshāt" ( العريشات ); "Al-ma’īzāt" (المعيزات ); "Ul-qauādī" (القواضى ); and "Al-hersheh" (الهرشة ): The second section is known as the (2) "Aulād Rāshid", which consists of; "Aulād Al-Sheikh"; and "Aulād Rāshid". AULAD ALSHIK (اولاد الشيخ )which consists of AULAD MOUSA اولاد موسى AULD BOZED اولاد ابوزيد ALMASHARA المشارة , ALDRABA الدرباء ,A The total population in the "minţaqa" (area) Al-A’jēlāt is estimated at about 80,000 individuals scattered among those tribes.

Economy

The Al-Ajaylat region is most famous for the cultivation of palm trees, olives and various types of vegetables. There is also a medical center. [There is also a small region of Syria called Al-Ajaylat, and has a population of 1000.]
