- Friedrich von Gärtner
Friedrich von Gärtner (December 10, 1791 in
Koblenz – April 21, 1847 inMunich ) was a Germanarchitect .He and
Leo von Klenze are known as the most famous architects ofBavaria under Ludwig I. His style was generally Romanesque, much to the king's taste. In 1822 Friedrich von Gärtner was appointed artistic director of theNymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory . Since 1842 Gärtner was the director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.Gärtner's "Ludwigskirche" in the Ludwigsstrasse in Munich strongly influenced other churchly architecture, especially in Northern America.
