John Lauderdale Kennedy (b. 1854- d. 1946) was a
Nebraska Republican politician.Born in
Ayrshire, Scotland on October 27, 1854, he immigrated in 1874 to theUnited States and settled and farmed inLaSalle County, Illinois . He attendedKnox College inGalesburg, Illinois in 1879 and then graduated from the law department of theUniversity of Iowa in Iowa City in 1882. He passed the bar and briefly set up practice inOmaha, Nebraska being elected as a Republican to theFifty-ninth United States Congress . He served from March 4, 1905 to March 3, 1907, unsuccessfully running for reelection in 1906.He resumed practicing law in Omaha and became a member and chairman pro tempore of the board of fire and police commissioners for the city of Omaha in 1907 and 1908. He was the chairman of the Republican State committee in 1911 and 1912. He ran unsuccessfully for election to the United States Senate from Nebraska in 1916.
He was the Federal fuel administrator for Nebraska from October 1917 to March 1919. He was also the president of the
United States National Bank from 1920 to 1925 and president of the OmahaChamber of Commerce in 1924 and 1925. He retired in January 1933 and moved toPacific Palisades, California , where he died August 30, 1946. He was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery inGlendale, California .References
