August 19 ,1920 ) was a professional journalist who joined theCBS News team in 1944, where he served as a writer, editor and correspondent. He was a producer of the renownedCBS "60 Minutes " program from 1968-1988. Counted among his colleagues are the renownedEdward R. Murrow andWalter Cronkite .He received the
Silurian Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was nominated for aPulitzer Prize for his work onThe Lee Harvey Oswald Story in 1963. Other awards:The Hillman ,Emmy s,American Bar Association , and Peabodys.His wife and professional partner,
Shirley Wershba , kept their marriage a secret in the early years due to CBS network regulations. Shirley Wershba developed one of the first shows to focus on women's issues, "Dimensions of a Women's World ".Wershba was portrayed by
