Israel 's central coastal strip in the south of the Sharon region, borderingTel Aviv to the south andHerzliya and Kibbutz Glil Yam to the north. It is part of theTel Aviv District , withinGush Dan metropolitan area. The city has a population of 53,004, and interestingly, less than 50% of its municipal area is built up, as it is bordered by two large installations limiting the growth of the city; Israel’s largest fuel and gas center, and the main plant depot of the Israeli military.History
Ramat HaSharon was established in 1922 as Ir Shalom (City of Peace), and was first settled one year later, in 1923. Later, in 1932, the city was renamed Kfar Ramat HaSharon (Sharon Height Village), with the "Kfar" being officially dropped several years later.
Demographics
The majority of the buildings in Ramat Hasharon are residential, with single family lots for families of medium to high income, although the number of multiple family dwellings is growing. There is one neighborhood, a relic of the immigration waves of the 1950s, which is lower income.

Located in Ramat HaSharon is the locally well-known "Skater's Square" ( _he. כיכר הסקייטרים).
Ramat HaSharon is home to the Israel Tennis Center, founded in 1976, which hosts and organizes international, national and regional tennis tournaments. Along with tennis facilities, which include 24 illuminated courts, and stands which seat up to 4,500 spectators, the central management of the organization, which manages 13 other tennis centers around the country, is located in the town.
The city's women basketball team,
