James Hampton (actor)

James Wade Hampton (born in Oklahoma City July 9, 1936) is an American actor.

Hampton is known for his roles in "The Doris Day Show", "F Troop" (as Hannibal Dobbs, the incompetent bugler), "The Longest Yard", "Teen Wolf" (1985), "Teen Wolf (TV series)" (1986 to 1989), "" (1988) and "Sling Blade" (1996). Hampton guest starred as Jim Rockford cousin Aaron Ironwood in a 1975 episode of "The Rockford Files". He was also a guest celebrity on the NBC game show "Super Password" in 1987. He received a Bronze Halo Award for "Hawmps," a Golden Globe nomination for "Most Promising Newcomer" for the part of "Caretaker" in "The Longest Yard".

Hampton was raised in Dallas Texas, where his father operated a cleaning business. He majored in theater arts at the University of North Texas, After a series of failed jobs including bodyguard, bartender and photojournalist, he was inducted into the army, and while stationed in Germany, performed with the USO, for which he won awards. Following his service, he performed in summer stock in Texas, and then moved to New York, where he was given his first film role -- the Academy Award nominted short subject The Cliffdwellers. Married to actress Mari Deese.
