- My Utmost for His Highest
-
Written by Oswald Chambers (1874-1917), My Utmost for His Highest ( ISBN 0-929239-99-7 ) is a compilation of Chambers' Christian preaching to students and soldiers. Published in England in 1927, and in the USA in 1935, the book has become one of the most popular religious books ever written.[citation needed] Chambers' popularity grew after his death thanks to his wife, Gertrude Hobbs, who summarised his talks from her extensive shorthand notes.
The book is a devotional, broken down in 365 sections for each day of a year, meant to be read daily for inspiration.
In 1995, Myrrh Records and Word Records put out a compilation album of Contemporary Christian Music under the same title as a tribute to this book, featuring such artists as Amy Grant, Sandi Patty, Bryan Duncan, Michael W. Smith and others. The album was so popular that there were another two albums, a tour, and a video of the tour[1]. On it there is a title song entitled "My Utmost For His Highest." The release of the album prompted a resurgence in the popularity of the book. In addition; two artists, Duncan and Steve Camp, released separate albums based on the same theme.
