Farouk is also the co-founder and director of
Honey Care Africa , an innovativeprivate sector social enterprise promoting sustainable community-basedbeekeeping in easternAfrica .Farouk has received numerous international awards for his work, including the
Equator Initiative Prize at theWorld Summit on Sustainable Development for his contributions to poverty reduction andbiodiversity conservation (2002), theInternational Development Marketplace Innovation Award from theWorld Bank andSoros Open Societies Institute (2002), theIsmaili Youth Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship from His Highness PrinceAmyn Aga Khan (2004), and theWorld Business Award from thePrince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum andUNDP in recognition of his contribution toward theUN Millennium Goals (2004). At the2005 World Economic Forum inDavos , Farouk was recognised by theSchwab Foundation as being among the world's most outstanding social entrepreneurs. In late 2005, he received theBryden Alumni Award fromYork University . He is anAga Khan Foundation Scholar and aSauvé Scholar (atMcGill University ) and holds a Master’s inEnvironmental Studies from York University, a post-graduate diploma in Business and Environment from theSchulich Business School , and aBSc (Honours, First Class) inEnvironmental Biology fromQueen's University .
