Rigas Sporta Pils ( _lv. Rīgas Sporta pils) is an
ice hockey arena inRiga ,Latvia . It was built in 1970 with the total 4,500 spectator seats (total capacity of 5,500 including room for 500 standing spectators).In the 1970s-80s, it was the home arena for the renowned ice hockey club
Dinamo Riga and in other arenas of building frequently hostedfigure skating ,basketball ,tennis events.From 1990 until 2006 it had been the home games' arena for the
Latvian national ice hockey team and until end of 1990s was host of almoust allLatvian Hockey League teams. However, since 2006Latvian national ice hockey team has been playing its home games in the twice-as-largeRiga Arena that was built to host the2006 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships . Jānis Leimanis announced his plans to renew the arena and area near arena (starting at summer 2007). His aim is to make are more for residential and commercial needs – to build flats, offices, hotels and keep renewed ice hall itself.
