- Auguste Henri Vildieu
Auguste Henri Vildieu was the French architectural
adjutant inHanoi while that city was an administrative center for the Frenchcolony ofIndochina . Vildieu constructed several grand European-style buildings for the colonialgovernment , including:
*the "Bureaux et Résidences Supérieure"
* theMairie (City Hall)
*thePalais de Justice (Supreme Court)
*thepost office
*thePresidential Palace (then known as the Palace of the Governor-General of Indochina)
*thePublic Works Building
*theprison Vildieu may also have been involved with the construction of the local Christian
cathedral . Interestingly, while Vildieu spent most of his working life designing French buildings inVietnam , he early on designed a Vietnamese building inFrance for the1889 Universal Exposition . This pavilion was modeled on the porch of thePagoda of Quan Yen , and was referred to at the Exposition as the "Palace of Annan and Tonkin".
