- Konishi Hirosada
Konishi Hirosada (ca. 1810-1864) was a Japanese artist of
ukiyo-e . His artist name was originally Sadahiro, but he changed the sequence of syllables in 1847. One theory suggests he did this to evade censorship, but it was not unheard of for Japanese artists to change their art names for more whimsical reasons. He was a member of the
Osaka school of artists. The Osaka school was largely commercial art so Hirosada primarily did promotional art for theaters and actors. Still for a time he was a leading figure in the Osaka school and of note in the history of ukiyo-eExternal links
