Cankurd, (
1948 - ), is a contemporary Kurdish poet and writer. He was born in the village of Meydank in the north-eastSyria . He completed his studies in Afrin andAleppo . Due to political activism, has was imprisoned several times, until he leftSyria forGermany in1979 . He writes in Kurdish, Arabic and German. He has translated some of the literary works ofShakespeare andDaphne du Maurier into Kurdish.
