Rupert Hughes (1872—1956) was a historian, novelist, film director and composer based in
Hollywood . Hughes was born inLancaster, Missouri . His parents were Felix Turner Hughes and Jean Amelia Summerlin, who were married in 1865. His brotherHoward R. Hughes, Sr. , co-founded the Hughes Tool Company. He was the uncle ofHoward Hughes , the famous aviation magnate and filmmaker. His three volume scholarly biography ofGeorge Washington broke new ground in demythologizing the general and was well received by historians.
