The Horse Flies are an American
alternative rock /folk band, founded in the late 1970s under the name 'Tompkins County Horseflies'ref|original-name by husband and wifeJeff Claus andJudy Hyman ,Rich Stearns and John Hayward.Hayward, the band's bassist, died in 1997 ref|john-hayward. The Flies' current lineup consists of:

* Jeff Claus:guitar , banjo uke, vocals
* Rich Stearns:banjo , vocals
* Taki Masuko: percussion
* Jay Olsa: bass
* Rick Hansen:accordion , organAfter Hayward died in 1997, they stopped performing. Several years ago, the group began playing again using different names, such as
Edna's Driveway . They have just recently begun to perform again as The Horse Flies.In 2000 and 2004, Hyman and Stearns toured as a member of Natalie Merchant's band and provided backup on Merchant's 2003 album "
The House Carpenter's Daughter ". Claus's song "Sally Ann" was covered on the album.. [cite web
