Thornleigh Salesian College was founded in 1925 and became a Direct Grant Boys' Grammar school catering for a wide area of Lancashire. In 1979, it converted to a comprehensive school and joined with St Anne's High School, to form a 2 site comprehensive school with a Sixth Form. In 1986 it combined with St Cuthbert's school. In 1990 it consolidated on one site - Sharples Park.
