Roman Catholic high school inErie, Pennsylvania in theRoman Catholic Diocese of Erie . Prep was established in 1921 by then Erie Catholic BishopJohn Mark Gannon . Bishop Gannon founded Prep as an all-male Catholic high school.The school was originally located underneath St. Peter’s Cathedral in what is presently the Prep cafeteria. In 1953, an Auditorium and a three level classroom addition were constructed as enrollment grew. The last major addition to the school was the 1964 science wing addition at the corner of 10th & Myrtle in order to accommodate the growth of the school. Cathedral Prep’s first graduating class of 1925 consisted of just 44 students.
Academics
Cathedral Prep offers a
college prep curriculum that prepares students to handle the academic rigors of college. In addition to the core curriculum, a variety of electives are offered to broaden and tap into the students' interests.Fact|date=September 2008Athletics
Cathedral Prep is a member of the
Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) in District 10, Region 6. The school's teams are named "Ramblers". Originally named for the "rambling" roses found outside of St. Peter's Cathedral (Prep's namesake) the image has changed over time to be portrayed as ram.Football
In 2000, the Cathedral Prep football team won the
Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association class "AAAA" football title. They finished with a 14-0 record and a #4 national ranking byUSA Today . They won a lot of games and all the fans and players were really happy to see the team do so good. When they played Strong Vincent they only lost by 20 and they nearly had 40 yards total offense. The Cathedral Prep basketball team has won two PIAA Basketball Championships (1980 and 1993) and three PCIAA (Pennsylvania Catholic Interscholastic Athletic Association) in 1953, 1954, and 1971. Every year the Cathedral Prep team hosts the

Current

Cathedral Prep has undergone interior renovations to the halls and classrooms of all four floors in its main building, with the halls and rooms of the auditorium and science wing to follow.clarifyme|post-text=(when?) The project, which encompasses new windows, ceilings, walls, lockers, lighting fixtures, carpeting, and a technology infrastructure has a projected completion cost of three million dollars. Money has been accumulated through grants and alumni contributions. Prep has just completedclarifyme|post-text=(when?) a $1 million renovation to the science wing.
Future
Prep has announced plans of a new athletic facility to be built on the former site of the EMI Foundry Building on the southeast corner of 12th & Cherry Streets. The complex will include an athletic field (for use by the football, lacrosse, and soccer teams) with
A-Turf ; a gymnasium with enough seating to house varsity basketball games (1,800 seats); a 400-seat natatorium; a new wrestling room; weight room; and an 8-lane, all-weather track. The building of the new facility will be part of a $10-12 million dollar capital campaign to update the science hall and auditorium. Tablet PC Program
Prep has incorporated a Tablet PC program, which gives each incoming student a personal Tablet/Laptop computer. The school started installing textbooks on all the computers.
