April 10 1810 –September 29 1893 ) was a Democratic U.S. Senator fromKentucky .Born in
Caldwell County, Kentucky (nowLyon County, Kentucky , Machen attended Cumberland College in Princeton, and then engaged in agricultural pursuits near Eddyville.
