Yaxley F.C. is a football club based in Yaxley, Cambridgeshire, England, a small town to the south of Peterborough.

History

Yaxley FC was formed in 1900. Under the name Yaxley Rovers, they were founder-members of the Peterborough League in 1902. The club had an indifferent time during the 1950s, going out of existence at one point, but in 1964 a revived and rejuvenated Yaxley rejoined the Peterborough League. They won Division Three (South) title in 1969, were promoted from Division Two in 1972, and three successive second places in Division One led to a place in the Premier Division in 1975.

In 1988 Yaxley moved up to the Eastern League, but dropped out in 1992 due to inadequate ground facilities, joining the Huntingdonshire League. The club acquired the land at Leading Drove in 1993, which enabled them to invest in the facilities needed to progress to a higher level of football. They played in the 1994/95 debut season of the ill-fated West Anglian League (formed from the amalgamation of the Huntingdonshire League with the East Northamptonshire League), winning the championship at the first attempt, thereby earning admission to the United Counties League.

During the close season in 1996, floodlights were installed and a new stand was built at Leading Drove. This inspired the Cuckoos to the Division One championship in 1996-97 and promotion to the Premier Division for 1997-98. Yaxley achieved FA Charter Club status [ [http://www.thefa.com/NR/rdonlyres/490BAA49-C5FC-4CC3-A98A-C738C1B07AB8/49672/CSDevelopmentManual.pdf The FA Football Development Programme Charter Standard Club] ] [ [http://www.thefa.com/NR/rdonlyres/490BAA49-C5FC-4CC3-A98A-C738C1B07AB8/32361/ApplicationForm.pdf The FA Football Development Programme Charter Standard Clubs] ] in 2004 and the club was granted planning permission to redevelop the Leading Drove site, improving the facilities to FA community standard. A costly dispute delayed the process in 2005 for about a year, but the club was able carry on with its plans for one of the best grounds in the League.

In the 2008/09 season, Yaxley F.C. are playing in the Eagle Bitter United Counties Football League Premier Division, led by manager Gary Clipston, looking to make progress at the top of the league table.

A good run in the FA Cup saw them face Needham Market in the first round qualifer, who boasted the likes of former Manchester City and Northern Island international Kevin Horlock in their squad. Yaxley led twice before frawing 2-2, and eventually loseing 3-0 in the replay.
