- Kings of Tir Eogain
The Kings of Tír Eógain
1185 -1616 . Date of accession to death, unless otherwise stated.Prior to this, the ruling dynasty - the Cenél nEógan - were most of the
Kings of Ailech . During the tenth and eleventh centuries, two main septs within the dynasty emerged; the Mac Loughlainn and the Ó Néill. The latter family pushed aside the Mac Loughlainns, and from1241 onwards the kingdom was ruled exclusively by members of the Ó Néill family.Rí Tír Eóghain 1185-1616

earl of Tyrone in 1541, as part of the process ofSurrender and regrant , and in the process had waived his title. Whether he could waive it on behalf of his clan "derbfine" is a moot point.Certainly the 3rd earl / Aodh Mor was not proclaimed king at Tullyhogue in 1593, but came to assume the title.
