"Desabhimani" is a Malayalam newspaper and the organ of the Kerala State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Started as a weekly in Kozhikode in 1942 and converted to a daily in 1946. "Deshabhimani" now has six different editions: Kozhikode, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur, Kottayam and Trichur. According to the National Readership Survey of 1995, "Desabhimani" was the third largest newspaper in Kerala. Dakshinamoorthi, secretariat member of the CPI(M) is the Chief Editor of the paper and E.P. Jayarajan the General Manager. Mr. Jayarajan was reinstated to this post by the state committee of CPI(M) after removing Mr. P. Jayarajan. This is Mr. E P Jayarajan's second term as the General Manager. He was removed from this post ten months ago, after proving that he was indulged in accepting two crores of rupees from a Tamilnadu based lottery don. the CPI(M) in a press note cleared it at the time of removal that, though the money was for the News paper, it was not accepted with the permission of the party.
