Black Fox (chief)

Black Fox (chief)

Black Fox (Enoli or Inali) was the leading chief of the Cherokee from 1801 to his death in 1811. As a primary chief of the Cherokee, Black Fox relinquished nearly seven thousand square miles of land in Tennessee and Alabama under the treaty of January 7, 1806. In which he was given a life annuity of $100. As a member of the national council of his tribe, in 1810, he signed an enactment officially putting an end to the tradition of clan revenge. Up until then universal among the tribes, therefore taking an important step toward civilization
