Aphthardocites

Aphthardocites

The Aphthardocites, or Aphthardocitæ, were a sect of heretics, sworn enemies of the Council of Chalcedon. They arose among the Eutychians, and made their first appearance in the year 535.

The word is derived from the Greek "ἄφθαρτος", "incorruptible", and "δοκιω", "I judge". The term was given to them because they believed the body of Jesus Christ was incorruptible and impassible, and not capable of death.
