Aphronitre

Aphronitre

Aphronitre, or aphronitrum, is a kind of nitre, mentioned in ancient texts. It was supposed to be the foam or froth of a liquid, emerging to the top. Naturalists have taken the ancient "aphronitre" to have been a native saltpeter.
