Screensaver Lifesaver

Screensaver Lifesaver

Screensaver Lifesaver is a grid computing project run by Oxford University's Centre for Computational Drug Discovery that attempts to find cures for various cancers. The program utilizes donated computing power to model (with LigandFit) the therapeutic effects of proteins which have been identified as good cancer treatment candidates. The project's primary source of funding is the National Foundation for Cancer Research.

Like Folding@home and SETI@home, the Screensaver Lifesaver project relies on mass participation of volunteers. Anyone with a PC and an internet connection can participate by downloading software from the website. The software is activated as a screensaver, using the participants computer to work on computational problems when it would be otherwise idle.
