Barri del Carmel

Barri del Carmel

Barri del Carmel (also El Carmel or simply Carmel) is a neighbourhood in the district of Horta-Guinardó, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

It is infamous for a major tunnel construction accident in early 2005. It brought to a halt the expansion works on line 5 of the Barcelona Metro and led to the evacuation of dozens of buildings in the area. Part of the district is, as of 19 January 2006, still off-limits.

A bus crash on 20 September 2008 in the neighbourhood, resulted in the death of two people - a young girl and an elderly woman.
