The American Embassy School, South Delhi, India is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from prekindergarten (Early Childhood Education) through grade 12. The School was founded in 1952. Its motto is "Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve.The school was selected for review by the "
Good Schools Guide International ", which described it as "Well-organised, [with a] large campus and great facilities."Admission and Demographics
Admission is guaranteed for US residents in Delhi. Eligibility in all other cases is limited to children whose parents or
legal guardian s are temporarily residents in India and located in New Delhi. Eligible Indian students may be admitted only with the approval of the Government of India. 30 percent of the school's 1146 students in nursery totwelfth grade are Americans, the majority of students represent more than 51 nationalities. The school director is Bob Hetzel.At the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year, enrollment was 1,142 (PK-grade 5: 581; grades 6-8: 266; and grades 9-12: 295) and there were 122 full-time and 24 part-time faculty members.
Organization
The School is governed by a 11-member Board of Governors, elected for 2-year terms by the American Embassy School Association of New Delhi, the sponsor of the School. This group also aims to ensure that the school remains a part of the local community.
Curriculum and Facilities
The curriculum is that of general academic, college-preparatory public schools. The School's testing program includes the College Board and American College Testing tests. Instruction is in English. French and Spanish are taught as foreign languages. English-as-a-Second-Language is offered for non-English-speaking students. The School also offers the
International Baccalaureate andAdvanced Placement programs. Most of the graduates go on to colleges and universities in the United States and other countries. The School is accredited by theMiddle States Association of Colleges and Schools .The school includes 2 libraries, 1 swimming pool (plus a diving pool and wading pool), a physical education center, several computer labs, playgrounds, and a performing arts center. Currently a new high school building is undergoing construction to meet to increasing population of A.E.S. This will result in a change of the MS/HS library location as well.The school campus is spread over twelve acres.

The school operates a number of extracurricular activities, including a wide range of competitive sports and other interests such as
chess andclimbing .The school's community goals are also realised through extra activities. The "Reach Out" program enables students to interact with people from the "jugghi" or
slum s near the school. In this, the school has helped the people form a recycling center, library, and studying area to promote education, and much more. The students may also participate inAmnesty International ,Habitat for Humanity , and other community services.Library
The MS/HS Library supports the American Embassy School 's mission statement. It enables and inspires its students to be passionate learners, responsible citizens, and fulfilled individuals, who make well-informed choices in a diverse and dynamic world. Our role is to provide the human and material resources that will enable students and others in the AES community to develop these skills.
It is the library's goal to help all students, staff and parents use all resources and services found in the library to its maximum potential. The vast collection of books (over 30,000 fiction, non fiction and reference), magazines (138) and videos (over 2400) seek to support the instructional and recreational reading/research needs of the school community.
