Ma Xiaochun was born in
Zhejiang ,China . He is a professional Go player from China. He was promoted to 9 dan in 1985 when he was only 19 years old. This was before new promotion rules were made under reforms of new presidents, so an achievement of this calibre is certainly exquisite. In 1995, he became the first Chinese player to win international titles: theTong Yang Cup fromKorea , and theFujitsu Cup fromJapan . During that time, Ma Xiaochun andLee Chang-ho were the top two players in the world constantly ranking #1 and #2 in the international go scene. It was said that Ma Xiaochun retired out of frustration in falling 2nd place consecutively to his South Korean rival. He is currently the head coach of the Chinese Go squad.His style
