France .Situated on the right bank of the
River Seine and centred on the Opéra, the 8th is, together with the 2nd and 9th arrondissements, one of Paris's main business districts. According to the 1999 census, it was the place of employment of more people than any other single arrondissement of the capital. It is also the location of many places of interest, among them theChamps-Élysées , theArc de Triomphe and thePlace de la Concorde , as well as theÉlysée Palace , official residence of thePresident of France .Geography
The land area of the arrondissement is 3.881 km² (1.498 sq. miles, or 959 acres).
Demographics
The peak of population of the 8th arrondissement occurred in 1891, when it had 107,485 inhabitants. Since then, the arrondissement has widely attracted businesses, and has become less of a residential area. In 1999, the population was only 39,314, while the arrondissment contained 171,444 jobs.
