West Virginia Wild

The West Virginia Wild were a basketball team that played in the International Basketball League and then later joined the National Professional Basketball League. The team was based in Charleston, West Virginia.

The Wild finished the 2006 season with a 4-14 record. They were led by 6' 9" Power Forward/Center J. R. VanHoose who averaged 26.8 ppg, and 15.5 rpg and was named to the IBL Eastern Conference All-Star Team along with Wild teammates Kalan Smith and player/owner Daniel Hicks.

The team was scheduled to return to action in the IBL in 2007, but ownership decided to skip the season and concentrate on the 2008 season.

After announcing that they joined the NPBL for the 2008 season, the team no-showed its season opener against the Bulldogs in Elmira, New York [http://stargazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080414/NEWS01/804140308/1001] . After this, they were dropped from the league due to drug allegations in regards to the team's owner.
