- Teckomatorp
Teckomatorp is a small town in
Svalöv Municipality inSkåne County inSweden , with a population of 1,644 (2005). It has a train station (local "pågatåg" trains) on theMalmö - Teckomatorp -Helsingborg railway line. The BT Kemi scandal
Teckomatorp is the site of the largest poison scandal in Sweden. The company BT Kemi produced pesticides. During the 1970s, the inhabitants started protesting because of stitching odour from the plant that made people ill. It was also said that BT Kemi buried barrels in the ground. However, the authorities did nothing for several years, not until a former employee told a newspaper that false journals with values within allowed limits were produced. When the authorities finally started to dig, they found several hundreds of barrels with very toxic content.
In 1979, the plant was demolished, and in 1980, the southern area, around the plant itself, was cleaned. But today it is realised that the northern area also is polluted, and that the southern area still is polluted. "(Dagens Nyheter 22.3.2008)"
