Komagata Maru incident, an incident where Canada turned away 397 Indian dissidents (most of whom wereSikh ) as a part of a policy to keep Canada racially white. The Indians on the boat saw this as proof that they were not equal citizens of the British empire, and after being forced to leave Canada and return to Calcutta in India, decided that they would march on the capital in protest of the events that had taken place.The film will most probably be released in

*Terence Stamp ...Amitabh Bachchan has been unfortunately dropped from the film . The reason being that the Big B does not hold a Canadian passport! Deepa sent a mail to the superstar saying that she could not work with him because the Canadian Government, which is funding half the project, wants the lead actor to have a Canadian passport. Deepa is upset with this stringent rule as it was her dream to work with Amitabh Bachchan. But for her it was $12 million on one side and Big B on the other. And, she decided to have the funds for the film and drop the actor.Akshay Kumar is being offered the role of Gurdit Singh
Akshay Kumar says, "I am not used to working with Oscar NominatedDirectors so it is a great privilege to work with Deepa Mehta. The subject ofthis film has moved me, as it is a true representation and a testimony tohuman struggles for freedom, justice and equality. I want to portray this reallife tragedy to the world identifying how injustice was done to innocentpeople. It is an honour for me to play one of the bravest Sikhs, Gurdit Singh,in this tragic forgotten moment in history. I salute those brave souls whosacrificed their lives for justice and equality today."
