Ausflag is a not for profit organisation that exists to promote debate on Australia's national symbols, in particular the
flag of Australia . Prominent supporters of Ausflag are involved in the Australian republican movement.Ausflag was formed in
1981 byHarold Scruby , and has since worked to foster debate on the design of the flag. The organization holds regular flag design competitions and conducts advertising campaigns. Prominent Australians that have been involved in the direction of Ausflag includeNicholas Whitlam ,Phillip Adams ,Cathy Freeman ,Malcolm Turnbull ,Janet Holmes à Court andNick Greiner .Former chair of the
Australian Republican Movement Malcolm Turnbull left the board of Ausflag in1994 after being asked for his resignation and in2004 joined theAustralian National Flag Association .
