"Acrobat" is the eleventh track from U2's 1991 album, "Achtung Baby". Although a fan favorite, it is the only song from the album that was never played live. [U2 FAQs.com, [http://u2faqs.com/live/#3 Songs never played live] ] It can, however, be heard on recordings of the Zoo TV: Outside Broadcast Tour rehearsals in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It features frac|12|8 time signature and has The Edge playing a heavily distorted tremolo. "Acrobat" deals with the themes of helplessness and broken relationships, and can be seen as the culmination of a maritial lament first told in "Ultraviolet (Light My Way)".Fact|date=March 2007

Meaning

In an exclusive interview with The Edge on HBO, Bono stated that the song is about being a hypocrite. For instance the line, "I must be an acrobat, to talk like this and act like that..." is a good definition of a hypocrite.Fact|date=April 2007

Covers

A live cover was performed by Kane at Paridiso, Amsterdam on September 21, 2000, and later included on their CD/DVD tribute to U2, "With or Without You". [U2wanderer.org, [http://www.u2wanderer.org/disco/trib014.html With Or Without You Tribute Album] ]
