The 3rd Iowan Congressional District currently covers an area from Des Moines (on the western end) to the western outskirts of the Cedar Falls-Waterloo area (on the northeastern end) to the western outskirts of the Cedar Rapids area (on the eastern end) and to Lucas and Monroe Counties (on the southern end). It is currently represented by Democrat Leonard Boswell. In the 2006 race, Boswell defeated Republican nominee Jeff Lamberti. 2001 Iowa Redistricting Plan

June 22nd, 2001, Iowa Legislature passed a plan to redistrict the State of Iowa. The plan went into effect in 2002 for the 108th U.S. Congress.
