- Gale Brewer
Gale Brewer is a member of the
New York City Council . She was elected to the Council to two year terms in 2001 and 2003 and to a four year term in 2005. She is a Democrat representing theUpper West Side ofManhattan .Council Member Brewer had a long career in government prior to becoming a council member. She served as director of scheduling for
Mary Anne Krupsak , the formerLieutenant Governor of New York from 1975 to 1978. From 1978 to 1990 she was chief of staff toRuth Messinger , when Messinger was councilwoman from the same district Brewer now represents. She then served four years as director of the New York City Office of Federal Relations in New York in the administration of former MayorDavid Dinkins . She then served as Deputy Public Advocate for Intergovernmental Affairs under former Public AdvocateMark J. Green . She worked in the private sector between her time as deputy public advocate and her election to the City Council.Council Member Brewer serves as Chair of the Technology in Government Committee.
