Phodong

Phodong

Phodong is a town 38 kilometers north of Gangtok, the capital of the Indian state of Sikkim in North Sikkim district. Phodong is famous for the "Phodong Monastery" and the "Labrang Monastery" which is situated at a slightly higher altitude then the Phodong Monastery. The main occupation is farming on terraced slopes, though in recent years, tourism has contributed to the economy. Phodong is basically an eating place for the tourists (mostly local) visiting the beautiful destinations of North Sikkim. Tourist staying overnight at Phodong to visit the Monasteries may stay at the two hotels i.e Hotel "Yak and Yeti" and Hotel "Northway" where they can enjoy the warm hospitality along with the warm "Chhang" (a local beverage).
