- Peter Godwin (singer)
Peter Godwin was a musician in the band Metro (with
Duncan Browne ) in the late 1970s who became a mildly successful New Wave artist in the early 1980s. His most well-known song is probably his 1982 "Images of Heaven", which got some alternative airplay throughout the 1980s. He also got a little airplay with his song "Baby's In The Mountains"."Images of Heaven" and many other tracks by Peter were produced by
Georg Kajanus ."Images of Heaven" had two videos made for it. The first featured an "adult" interpretation of the lyric but was deemed not suitable for television, so another, more innocuous version was made featuring a girl in a cereal box that Peter is looking at coming to life. Both were directed and produced by David & Kathy Rose.
In 1998, a number of his songs from his time with the band Metro, his early 1980s underground hits, and a couple of new songs were released on CD in 1998. The name of this CD is "Images of Heaven: The Best of Peter Godwin", and it was released on Oglio Records.
One song he composed with his band Metro, "
Criminal World ", was covered byDavid Bowie in his 1983 album Let's Dance. Peter Godwin thanked David Bowie for covering this song in the liner notes for the "Images of Heaven" CD.Peter has recently been writing lyrics for
Steve Winwood , the first fruits of which appear on Winwood's album Nine Lives.External links
