At 6'1" and 235 lbs, Edwards played football atAuburn University , where he earned a degree in physical education and won honors as an AllSoutheastern Conference end.After being drafted by the AFL Denver Broncos in 1962, he signed with the upstart Dallas Cowboys as a free agent in 1963 and started at linebacker in 1965. Strong and steady throughout his career, he intercepted 2 passes on December 12, 1970 against Cleveland, helping the Cowboys earn a 6-2 victory that sent them into the playoffs. Known for his strong hands, he manned the strongside linebacker position and helped anchor the run defense in the original
