Earl Haig Fund Scotland

The Earl Haig Fund Scotland, trading as poppyscotland, is a Scottish charity founded in 1921 by Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig as part of the Haig Fund. It is dedicated to raising funds for former members of the armed forces. It does this primarily through the annual Scottish Poppy Appeal.

Poppyscotland (The Earl Haig Fund Scotland) was founded in 1921 with the aim of giving practical help in time of need to all who served in the Armed Forces and their dependants.

The Principal means of raising money is through the Scottish Poppy Appeal, which takes place every November in the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday.

Funds raised by the Scottish Poppy Appeal are directed to:

- Providing direct financial assistance to ex-Service men, women and their dependants in Scotland.

- Funding an advice service, including pension claims and appeals.

- Supported employment for veterans with disabilities.

- Grants and research for ex-Service organisations that deliver specialist services to veterans in Scotland.

Inspired by two poems written during the First World War, the poppy has become a symbol of remembrance for those who gave their lives for their country. The first Poppy Appeal took place in 1921 and in 1926 Lady Haig established the Poppy Factory in Edinburgh.
