Wylie Island

Wylie Island was once a bar island on the New River in Summers County, West Virginia.

Wylie Island is a bar island on the New River. It is a few miles upstream of the Bluestone Lake tail waters. Rapids run by the Island and the small section of the New River that separates it from the mainland is barely larger than a creek which can actually stop flowing during periods of drought. It is located directly across from the Shanklin's Ferry Campground which is part of the Bluestone Wildlife Management Area. It's location is just down stream from the border between Virginia and West Virginia. Chief Conservation Officer Rob Sovine manages the Bluestone WMA which includes Wylie Island.
