Pointe-Olivier is now calledSaint-Mathias and is on theRichelieu River near theFort Chambly .The 1st Canadian Regiment of James Livingston was composed of French-Canadians, Acadian and American colonists living in Quebec. It fought with Benedict Arnold at the
Battle of Saratoga in 1777. This crucial victory by the Americans led to a full French alliance with the Americans four months later in February 1778. Until this point, France only provided funds.References
