- Kansas State Capitol
The Kansas State Capitol is the state capital building of the
U.S. state ofKansas . Housing theKansas Legislature , it is located in the state capital of Topeka. The building was constructed in stages, the east wing 1866–1873, the west wing 1879–1881, and the center 1884–1906. The building is currently undergoing extensive renovations, including reclaiming numerous frescoes previously over. A large mural in the east wing, painted by KansanJohn Steuart Curry , centers on an image of abolitionist John Brown. This is believed to be the only instance of a convicted of treason being featured in a state capitol.Dome tours are available by special request and advance notice.
Cyrus K. Holliday donated a tract of land to the state for the construction of a state capitol.External links
